The holidays are more magical than ever in Indiana. Old-world holiday charm returns to Carmel, Indiana, at the Carmel Christkindlmarkt (pronounced Chris-t-Kindle-Mark-t) opening Nov. 16. Find the Carmel Christkindlmarkt at Center Green, between the Palladium concert hall and the Tarkington theater. Locals know this as the location of the Carmel Farmers Market in the summer. Beneath the twinkling lights, browse more than 50 wooden huts selling authentic products imported from Germany, like wooden toys, nutcrackers, music boxes, ornaments and more. Don’t miss the collectible items like the boot mug and Bierkrüge for adult beverages. While you’re shopping, sip a hot mug of Glühwein (mulled wine) or hot cocoa. Come hungry to enjoy a German pretzel, Bratwurst, Lebkuchen (German cookie), Raclette (melted cheese served on bread) and Stollen (dried fruit bread).
What is a Christkindlmarkt?
Christkindlmarkts are holiday markets traditionally found in Europe, dating back to the Middle Ages in Saxony, Germany. The markets are a winter tradition with holiday food, drink, gifts and decorations. Here you’ll find hand-crafted wooden toys, artwork and more.
Gluhwein Pyramid
This traditional decoration is the only one like it in the United States, standing more than 33 feet tall with more than 3,000 lights and weighing 10 tons. Enjoy more than 10 varieties of warm beverages, ranging from mulled wine to beer and childrens’ punch. Purchase a collector’s mugs to take home with you.
The Ice at Center Green
Inside the perimeter of the Carmel Christkindlmarkt is an outdoor ice skating rink, the Ice at Center Green. Bring your own skates or rent on-site and glide through a winter wonderland. The ice rink will be open past the holiday season to enjoy all winter long. Beginning in 2018, reservations can be made online. Skate sessions last 75 to 90 minutes.

For over 60 years, Dr. Seuss’s illustrations have brought a visual realization to his fantastic and imaginary worlds. His artistic talent went far beyond the printed page and yet, to this day, his Secret Art Collection is virtually unknown to the general public. Throughout his lifetime, Theodor Seuss Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) created paintings and sculpture which he secreted away at the Dr. Seuss Estate. CV Art and Frame will share a compelling selection of artworks from The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection from November 22 through December 8. Visitors can explore and acquire works from Dr. Seuss’s best-known children’s books, as well as The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss, a mind-expanding collection based on decades of artwork which Dr. Seuss created at night for his own personal pleasure. A very special opening reception is scheduled on November 22 from 6:00-8:00pm. This reception is complimentary and open to the public, but RSVPs requested at 317-873-2976 or [email protected] For more information, visit https://cvartandframe.com/.

Several family-friendly activities can be enjoyed during the 2019 Bleed Blue Blood Drive Dec. 21 at Lucas Oil Stadium, including on-field activities, big-screen movies, children’s games and activities, and appearances by Colts cheerleaders and team mascot Blue. Free child care will be offered while parents donate blood.
* * *
More than 123,000 lives have been saved since the Indianapolis Colts first teamed with Versiti Blood Center of Indiana 20 years ago. Hoosiers are asked to give the gift of life this holiday season by donating critically needed blood at the 2019 Bleed Blue Blood Drive.
The drive runs from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Dec. 21 at Lucas Oil Stadium. Bleed Blue is the largest single-day blood drive of the year in Indiana and helps ensure that Versiti’s Indiana hospital partners can meet patient needs during the holiday season and into 2020.
This year’s goal is to collect 1,500 units of life-saving blood. O-negative blood is especially needed now as that blood type can be transfused to patients with any blood type. O-negative blood is carried on emergency air transport and is found in hospital emergency rooms for situations when there is no time to determine a patient’s blood type.
Each Bleed Blue donor will receive a commemorative, limited-edition football featuring Colts tight end and Indianapolis native Jack Doyle in appreciation of their generosity.
Several family-friendly activities can be enjoyed during the blood drive, including on-field activities, big-screen movies, children’s games and activities, and appearances by Colts cheerleaders and team mascot Blue. Free child care will be offered while parents donate blood.
Donating blood takes about an hour. Anyone age 17 or older in good health who meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to give. Parental consent is required for donors age 16 to donate blood. Donors should bring a photo ID that includes their birth date.
Appointments are encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule an appointment to donate blood at the 2019 Bleed Blue Blood Drive, call 317-916-5150 or visit Versiti online at http://www.versiti.org/Indiana.
