Tinkerfest is a *two-day celebration of curiosity and creativity for all ages! Explore more than 30 interactive, hands-on activities hosted by community exhibitors designed to engage and inspire your inner builder, coder, scientist, artist and tinkerer. Each activity invites children and families to make, invent and play! As part of our America 250th celebration, grab a map and tour the galleries to find the diverse, innovative stories of Hoosier’s contributions to our nation.

Foodees fest is coming to Indianapolis, In located at the Castleton Square on September 18th-20th, 2026. Guests can enjoy a variety of flavors from food trucks and vendors while exploring unique crafts, supporting small businesses, and spending quality time with family and friends.

The Festival of the Arts brings together local and regional artists, performers and vendors for a weekend of art and community activities. Visitors can browse visual art and handmade goods, enjoy live music, take part in interactive workshops and explore creative activities for a variety of ages.

The festival also welcomes young artists under age 18 to apply for a table and share their work during the event. Food will be available for purchase from several local vendors.

During this one-hour program our youngest visitors will enjoy circle time, story time, station explorations and movement time in our early childhood space, Firefly Landing. Caregivers will learn alongside their children as they practice skills like problem-solving and social-emotional communication while developing their fine and gross motor skills through play-based, open-ended activities.

Get ready to groove! We’ll discover how sounds and movement work together to create music as we try out different instruments, create musical art, enjoy story time and more.

Each child must be accompanied by an adult.

Get creative at Home School Art Day! This month we will paint a spooky mug using a festive fall or Halloween theme. Whether they choose spooky ghosts, friendly jack-o’-lanterns, colorful autumn leaves, or a completely original design, they’re free to customize it however they like!

Sign-up today or walk-ins are welcome while supplies last. Instruction begins at 1pm and assistance after class start time will be limited. Finished pieces will be kiln-fired and available for pick-up 3-4 days after class.

During this one-hour program, children and their families can play and learn alongside one another in our early childhood space, Firefly Landing. Little ones will build a sense of wonder as they engage in storytelling, hands-on STEAM projects, and sensory exploration related to the monthly theme.

What is life like on a farm? Our little learners will discover farm animals, tractors and how our food is grown while also experimenting with ways to use plants that we don’t eat. Other activities include sensory play and an interactive story time.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Fred the Mastodon and his friends are hosting their annual Halloween party at the museum, and you’re invited! Bring your family and friends and dress in your most creative costume for a chance to win a grand prize. Get ready to dance the night away, test your shrieking power in the scream booth and see a spooky science show with mad scientist Connie Fusion. And, of course, there will be plenty of treats!

The candy for our Halloween party has been stolen! Work together as you wander the dark galleries to solve puzzles and riddles in this escape room-inspired mystery. Plus, play ghoulish games, enjoy spooktacular music and more before the party gets started.

Flashlights will be provided. Detectives are encouraged to come in costume! We encourage wearing comfortable shoes for this walking tour through the galleries. Please be advised that the museum can be chilly at night when the lights are out.

Crash! Bang! Boom! Children will experiment with firework art and erupting chemistry experiments as they explore ways of making art and using real tools and household items. This program will also feature sensory exploration and a story time.

Be a big kid and join us for this 90-minute drop-off class that encourages creativity, exploration and independence in an environment that fosters curiosity and imagination. Children will explore the museum galleries and engage in hands-on science, art and sensory activities based on a monthly theme.

Calling all space explorers! Grab your astronaut suit and prepare for blast off! Children will become astronauts as we design space suits, mars rovers and create our own star–inspired art.

This class is for children to attend on their own. Caregivers do not accompany child or participate in the program.
