Butler Ballet proudly presents the only fully staged production of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker in Central Indiana. This full-length modern version of the holiday classic is presented by the Academy of Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre and other young local student dancers filling the stage with movement and color! It follows the same overall storyline as the original, but with a uniquely different twist: This magical updated version portrays Klara as a homeless orphan girl who discovers the true meaning of the season through the gift and the giving spirit of a homeless man. An Indianapolis holiday season tradition continues bigger and better than ever in 2019, when Indianapolis Ballet and Methodist Sports Medicine will proudly present The Nutcracker at the historic Murat Theatre at Old National Centre, November 29 – December 1. After establishing its production of The Nutcracker as a local must-see during the holidays across the last 12 years, the Indianapolis School of Ballet will continue to be a part of Indiana’s grandest staging of the classic Christmas tale alongside the 20 members of the new Indianapolis Ballet professional company. Basile Theatre at the Historic Athenaeum, Downtown Indy
Enjoy this classic production of The Nutcracker with a new, jazzy little twist. This world-premiere show will still tell the story of Clara, a girl who receives a nutcracker doll for Christmas and dreams that her doll comes to life and takes her to the beautiful fantasy world full of sugary delights, the Land of Sweets. However, the beginning of the ballet will be set in the 1920’s, so preceding your serving of dancing snowflakes, whirling flowers, and the Sugar Plum Fairy, will be a little dose of Charlestons, flappers, and, of course, jazz! Ages 3+. Come listen to the wonderful story of “The Nutcracker” as told by the beautiful dancers. It will be followed by a performance from Clara and The Sugar Plum Fairy! December 15, 2:00pm & 4:00pm
Grace Church, 5504 146th Street, Noblesville
The Village Dance Studio, in partnership with the LIFT program at Grace Church, brings you excerpts from The Nutcracker, a holiday classic ballet. This performance is a community outreach initiative to bring dance performance to all abilities. The house lights will be slightly raised, sound will be adjusted (lower at 2:00pm for those with sensory needs and higher at 4:00pm for those hard of hearing), various traditional and non-traditional seating options, and a movement space will be open in the back for anyone who wants to dance along. Families with children ages 3 and up are invited for a special ballet story time with Ballet Theatre of Indiana. They will hear about the Nutcracker story, based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s work, and take part in a short ballet lesson.
