Ringgold Park, located in the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood of Indianapolis, recently received a facelift! In August 2023, the urban park received new playground equipment and rubberized, synthetic turf surfacing installed around the playground.
History of Ringgold Park
Ringgold Park used to be a much larger part of the neighborhood. During the construction of Interstate 65, the area was divided, and what is now a triangular spot of land at the end of Ringgold Street has been turned into a neighborhood park.
New Playground at Ringgold Park
Ringgold Park is a 0.19-acre park that is maintained by Indy Parks & Recreation. The park features new playground equipment, including a climbing structure, a swing set with swing-along swings that accommodate both child and caregiver, and a seesaw.
There are also two benches off to the side for parents and caregivers to sit and watch their children play.
Natural Spaces at Ringgold Park
Around 2016, the natural spaces around the park were given new life. Keep Indianapolis Beautiful worked with Indy Parks and Bates-Hendricks neighbors to incorporate native plantings and a refreshed plan to the park. Now, the par is surrounded by plants and shrubbery, as well as bird boxes to encourage wildlife to use the park, too!
