The purpose of the NAYR academy is to introduce youth to the world of aviation by exposing them to the many challenging careers and opportunities the industry has to offer. Students will have the opportunity to interact with active professionals, receive career mentoring, take several field trips, and see how professionals perform in their roles. The academy will conclude with students taking an orientation flight.

This program is primarily hands-on experience with field trips that include IND Airport Tower, IND Airport Terminal, Vincennes University & Purdue University Aviation Technology Tour, IND Airport Fire Department, hands-on flying an airplane, aircraft simulators, tour Purdue University camps, Fedex facility, Rolls Royce, IND Airport Heliport, Airport Maintenance Hangars, Wright Patterson Airforce Museum, and more!

How much time do campers spend outside at NAYR?

Students spend numerous hours outside between field trip transitions, tours, and other various programs.

Does NAYR provide lunch/snacks, or do parents need to provide them?

The program does provide lunch and snacks; however, a few days of camp, students might need to bring them due to facilities and certain tours. Camp details will provide that information.

What is the typical daily schedule for campers at NAYR?

Students arrive at 8:00 AM, and various activities are planned for them throughout the day, including field trips. Parents pick up their children by 5:00 PM. An agenda can be provided for review.

How old are the counselors at NAYR, and how are they trained?

The NAYR Foundation Inc trains the counselors. The counselors are licensed educators in various schools. Additionally, graduates from the program who are off into college or professional aviation careers visit and assist. Professionals in the industry and airline pilots also assist.
