Speedway is known for being the site of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. But this Wayne Township city also houses a hidden gem: Meadowood Park. Located on the westside of Indianapolis in Wayne Township, Meadowood Park is 16 acres of fun for the whole family.
Meadowood Park Playground
The playground at Meadowood Park is designed for kids ages 2 to 12, and was completely remodeled in 2010. The playground for older kids (ages 5 and older) features a fun structure that includes two types of slides, monkey bars, poles to slide down, and a rock climbing wall. The structure is also shaded, and makes a nice fort. There is also a rope climbing structure a few feet away from the playground, and seat spinners that kids can sit on and twirl around.
A huge climbing boulder, away from the playground, that older kids can ascend. The boulder isn’t a real rock — it’s made out of a durable type of plastic — but it’s a fun addition to the park for kids who like to climb. And observant kids will also notice the fossil patterns all over the boulder.
The toddler playground, for kids ages 2-5, includes three different types of slides, a small rope wall, and lots of opportunities to climb. There is also an area with swings for toddlers, as well as swings for older kids, too.
Walking Path, Picnic Areas and Sports Areas
The walking path that winds around Meadowood Park is paved and is approximately ¾ of a mile. The park also has baseball and softball diamonds, plus lots of open space and grassy fields, which are perfect for running around — or setting down a blanket for a picnic. There are also three covered picnic shelters in the park, as well as restrooms and water fountains. Scattered throughout the park are benches, where visitors can sit and enjoy being among all of the mature trees in the park.
