Carmel’s revamped Lawrence W. Inlow Park feels like it was pulled right out of a kid’s dream. This playground is designed to spark imagination and get kids moving, making it a top spot for families looking to have some fun.
Massive Skywalk
The big attraction here is the “skywalk”—you really can’t miss it. It’s this huge structure that stands out even as you’re driving by. The walkway is enclosed, stretches about 32 feet long, and is perched 16 feet in the air. My kids, who are 4 and 6, were all over it once they figured out the rope ladder. I will say, though, it might be a bit tough for the little ones without some help. But for the older kids, it’s a blast—they can climb, slide, and explore to their hearts’ content.
Three Unique Playgrounds for Endless Fun
But that’s just one part of the fun. The park is split into three different playgrounds, each with its own cool stuff. There’s everything from embankment swings to ground-level ropes courses and all kinds of slides and monkey bars. The whole area is covered in artificial turf and a rubberized surface, so you don’t have to worry too much about the kiddos getting hurt while they’re running around.
The Worth the Drive Splash Pad
Another cool addition is the newly redone splash pad. It’s the perfect spot to cool off when it gets hot. It’s open from Memorial Day until the end of the summer season, which is great. The splash pad area has shaded benches and picnic tables, and they even added a Sun Shade Sail over part of it, so the kids can get some relief from the sun while they play. The hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, all the way through September 30.
My kids were all about the waterslide. They could have spent the entire day there. Though I did see a few kids zooming down a bit too fast and landing a bit awkwardly—but nothing serious. The updates Carmel Parks made to this slide definitely seem to have improved the safety.
Navigating the Park: A Parent’s Perspective
The layout is pretty convenient for families. The first playground is close enough to the splash pad so the kids can go back and forth easily. It does get a little tricky when one kid wants to stay at the splash pad while the other heads off to the skywalk at the back of the park. But all in all, it’s manageable, and they’re always within the park’s boundaries, so I didn’t feel too stressed keeping track of them.
