Where to Find Horseback Riding and Pony Rides in Indianapolis

Central Indiana is home to lots of trails, and where there’s trails, there’s also trail riding. Hopping on a horse and taking a horseback ride is a great family activity that will have you exploring the great outdoors in a whole new way.

Horseback Riding in Indianapolis

Strawtown Koteewi’s K-Town Equestrian Adventures

Located in Strawtown Koteewi Park, K-Town Equestrian Adventures offers families trail rides, guided trail rides and sunset rides. Trail rides are for kids age 7 and older, but there are pony rides available for younger kiddos, too. K-Town provides helmets for each rider and trails range from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours. They also offer lessons on horseback riding, horse care and birthday parties. 

Natural Valley Ranch

Horseback riding across the scenic 78-acre property in Hendricks County, Natural Valley Ranch offers 30- or 60-minute-long trail rides along the banks of White Lick Creek. Participants must be 4 years or older. After the trail ride, families can enjoy some time at the petting zoo, visiting with the ranch’s sheep, pigs, goats, chickens and other animals. 

Hoosier Trail Rides

Hoosier Trail Rides offers two trails in beautiful and scenic Fort Harrison State Park: a 1.5-mile and 2.5-mile experience. Participants must be 6 years or older, but for the younger crowd, they offer pony rides and hayrides. Hoosier Trail Rides also offer riding lessons for those that want to take the experience to a whole new level. You can also learn how to care for the horses, how to communicate with them, and how to foster a bond with horses. 


Pony Rides in Indianapolis

Located in Carmel, Poplar Ridge Stables offers indoor and outdoor pony rides, so the horsey fun can continue rain or shine. They also offer horse camps in the summer, as well as birthday parties, which include a horseback riding mini-lesson for the birthday child, horse rides for party guests, horse care activities such as grooming, crafts, and many other fun activities. 

Prancing Ponies

Just outside Westfield, Prancing Ponies is a family-owned and operated farm that includes pony rides and a petting zoo. You may have seen the Prancing Ponies logo at birthday parties and festivals throughout the year, but they also enjoy inviting families out to the 20-acre farm for a day of fun. Pony Dayz each Friday afternoon features $5 pony rides, new playground equipment and a variety of farm animals ready to be petted. Prancing Ponies also offers fun events, like Pumpkin Fest and Fall Break camps in the autumn.
