Commons Park is a bright and cheerful space, full of colorful fun on Indy’s east side. Opened in late 2018, this small but sweet playground features a greenspace, seating and other fun for families.
Playground for All Ages
Tucked into a neighborhood, Commons Parks has a playground that is perfect for older kids and younger kids alike. The main centerpiece of the playground is a giant playground structure that is built for all ages. Older kids will love climbing on a big structure that’s similar to a ropes course. Younger kids will enjoy the toddler play structure that features slides, bridges, monkey bars and more.
The modern-looking playground also features a geometric climbing structure that kids can climb on top of, under and even through. There is also a merry-go-round on the playground that is so huge, it can easily fit dozens of kids on it. Off to the side of the playground, visitors will find swings, including mommy-and-me swings, where parents and caregivers can swing facing their kids, and a swing that looks like a play car. The entire playground surface features soft tiles that are great for padding falls.
Rounding out the park is an area where you can play table tennis (bring your own paddles and ball!), as well as a barbecue grill.
Fenced Playground
One of the best features of Commons Park is that this park is completely fenced all the way around. This helps to give parents with kids who like to dash some peace of mind. And not only is the park fenced, but it’s small enough to see where your child is wherever they are in the park from the comfort of any of the benches that are placed around the park.
Commons Park History
The area that Commons Park now occupies has a history. The quarter-acre site used to be the home of a motorcycle gang, which was dismantled in 2012. Several years later, the land was given to Indy Parks, which has led the effort to beautify the space and make it into an area where kids and families can gather together.
