7 Ice Cream Hot Spots in Indy

A hot summer day and a cool ice cream cone go hand-in-hand.

Thankfully, there are plenty of spots throughout the greater Indianapolis area to grab a scoop (or two). Cup, cone, shake or malt – it’s all good! Make sure to indulge at your favorite spot this summer.

1. BRICS
  • 901 E 64th St, Indianapolis

Now with two Indianapolis locations, BRICS’ reputation for delicious, hand-churned ice cream spreads well beyond its original Broad Ripple home. Find BRICS along the Monon, in Tarkington Park, and at many local events around the city.

Bonus: “Briclets” are the perfect scoops for little ones.

2. TeeJay’s Sweet Tooth

Somewhat ironically owned by two dental hygienists, TeeJay’s Sweet Tooth is home to Indy’s only donut and Fruity Pebble Treat ice cream sandwich. Satisfy your sweet tooth with your choice of 16 rotating flavors in a unique ice cream sandwich, in a milkshake with an edible rim, or in a simple cone or cup. Call it what you will, but owners Jerome and Taylor call it job security.

3. Wyliepalooza Ice Cream Emporium
  • 5535 E Washington St, Indianapolis

Dreamed up over a slice of Jockamo’s pizza, Wyliepalooza opened in Historic Irvington in 2003. Now with a second SoBro location, the shops serve up a wide variety of super-premium flavors, gluten- and soy-free options, milkshakes, espresso and bubble tea.

4. Mrs. Curl Ice Cream Shop
  • 259 S Meridian St, Greenwood

This quaint ice cream stand with ample outdoor seating has been favorite in Greenwood for over 40 years. Here you can find everything from soft serve ice cream and hand-spun milkshakes to chili dogs and tater tots!

Bonus: Still housed in its original building, a visit to Mrs. Curl is like a trip back in time.

5. Traders Point Creamery
  • 9101 Moore Road, Zionsville

Enjoy hand-scooped artisan ice cream year-round in the rustic indoor dairy bar. During the summer months, you can savor your frozen treat under the big Indiana sky at the open-air dairy bar, located at the front entrance to the farm. Both serve ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes and smoothies.

Bonus: Enjoy a self-guided farm walk while enjoying your treat.

6. Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt
  • 8760 E 116th Street, Fishers
  • 2466 E. 146th Street, Carmel

Launched on a hot summer day in Ohio in 1945, Handel’s has a long-standing tradition of making its creamy concoctions fresh on site daily. Their philosophy? “We Never Skimp!”

7. Sundae’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt
  • 9922 East 79th Street, Indianapolis

With over 30 years of experience in the ice cream industry, Sundae’s has mastered classic recipes as well as innovative new flavors. Choose from more than 40 flavors made the old-fashioned way: one batch at a time.

Bonus: Pick up some fresh-roasted coffee beans to brew that perfect cup of coffee at home.
