Indianapolis in winter is a wonderland, and one of the best ways to enjoy it is to lace up your skates and hit the ice. The city is home to some amazing outdoor ice skating rinks,  both with real and synthetic ice, ideal for a winter adventure. In this guide, we spotlight six of Indy’s top rinks, each dedicated to delivering a vibrant and enjoyable winter outing for the whole family.

The Ice at Center Green

Location: 10 Center Green, Carmel
Operating Dates: November 18, 2023 – February 29, 2024
Type of Ice: Real Ice

Nestled in the beautiful town of Carmel, The Ice at Center Green is a perfect winter spot for families. With 90-minute long skate sessions (extended on Wednesdays and Thursdays), you can enjoy the chill of Carmel’s winter outdoors. There are several places nearby for food and beverages, including City Center, Midtown Plaza, and the Carmel Arts & Design District. Don’t forget to visit the Carmel Christkindlmarkt if you’re there between November 18 and December 24, 2023.

The rink can be rented for private events on Mondays and Tuesdays, and starting from January 10, 2024, it’s available on Wednesdays too.

Admission: $9 for anyone aged 10 and under; $11 for individuals aged 11 and over; $4 for skate rental

Ice Rink at Holliday Park

Location: 6363 Spring Mill Rd, Indianapolis
Operating Dates: November 24, 2023 – February 29, 2024
Type of Ice: Real Ice

Opening for its second year on November 24th, the Holliday Park Ice Rink is one of the newest additions to Indy’s outdoor ice skating scene. Ice skating here makes for a fun, healthy, and engaging activity suitable for all ages.

Admission: $14/person, free for children aged 4 and under. Skate rental is included with the admission ticket.

Bicentennial Unity Plaza

Location: 125 S Pennsylvania St, Indianapolis
Operating Dates: November 19, 2023 – January 21, 2024
Type of Ice: Real Ice

The Bicentennial Unity Plaza, a freshly created public space outside Gainbridge Fieldhouse, is home to a new ice rink. The Elevance Health Rink opens on November 19, just in time for the ice-skating season.

Admission: $11-$13, with a skate rental priced at $4

Ice Ribbon Skating Rink

Location: 133 Jersey Street, Westfield
Operating Dates: November 18, 2023 – January 13, 2024
Hours: Thursday-Sunday, times vary
Type of Ice: Synthetic ice

Catch the ice skating season in time at Westfield’s first-ever outdoor skating rink – the Ice Ribbon Skate Rink. Located in the Grand Junction Plaza, the 90-minute long sessions run from Thursday to Saturday.

Admission: $12/adults (ages 11+), $10/child (10 and under). The ticket price includes skate rentals.

Lawrence Civic Plaza

Location: 5710 Lawrence Village Pkwy, Indianapolis
Operating Dates: November 25 – December 23, 2023
Hours: Saturdays & Sundays- 2 pm-7 pm
Type of Ice: Synthetic ice

Celebrate winter at the Lawrence Civic Plaza’s very own ice-skating rink! This 60 x 80-foot rink, constructed using special materials, offers a skating experience that mirrors that of natural ice.

Admission: $10/adults, $5/kids. The price includes skate rentals. (Note: currently showing 2022 info)

Private Rentals: The Lawrence Civic Plaza ice rink is available for private rental Monday-Friday from 9 am-8 pm. Rink rental pricing starts at $250.

Federal Hill Commons Ice Plaza

Location: 175 Logan St, Noblesville
Operating Dates: November 18, 2023 – Monday, January 8, 2024

The Federal Hill Commons Ice Plaza blends ice skating with shopping and dining. Skaters can enjoy a round, take a break, shop, grab lunch, and return for another session the same day at no additional cost. Check the link below for the 2023 schedule.
