This May, the Metropolitan Youth Ballet (MYB) is bringing the timeless classic Swan Lake to the STAR Bank Performing Arts Center in Zionsville. Whether you’re a fan of high-energy performance or classic storytelling, this is a show you won’t want to miss. A Tale of Love and Deception Swan Lake isn't just about dancing—it’s a dramatic story filled with magic and suspense. It follows Princess Odette, who is cursed by an evil sorcerer to live as a swan during the daylight hours. The only way to break the spell is through a vow of true love. When Prince Siegfried falls for Odette, it seems like the curse might finally be broken. However, the sorcerer has a plan to ruin everything. He introduces the Prince to Odile, the "Black Swan," who looks exactly like Odette but is actually there to trick him. It’s a story about courage, betrayal, and the struggle between good and evil. World-Class Talent on Stage This production is a major event because it brings together local rising stars and professional dancers. You’ll see student performers from Carmel and Indianapolis sharing the stage with guest artists from the Louisville Ballet and Grand Rapids Ballet. The dancing in Swan Lake is famous for being incredibly difficult. Look out for these highlights: The Dance of the Little Swans: Four dancers move in perfect synchronization, requiring total focus and teamwork. The Black Swan’s Spins: One of the most famous moments in ballet where the dancer performs 32 "fouetté" turns in a row. The Corps de Ballet: Watch as dozens of dancers move together like a real flock of swans, creating beautiful patterns across the stage. Beyond the Performance The fun begins before the curtain even rises. In the theater lobby, you can explore the Ballet Boutique for unique gifts, grab a snack at the Swans’ Sweets Table, or snap some photos at the interactive displays. The best part? After the show, there is a Cast Meet & Greet. You’ll have the chance to meet the performers, see the intricate details of their costumes, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a dancer.
