Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) is encouraging the community to participate in breaking barriers and stereotypes as the organization celebrates Disability Awareness Month. Numerous activities are planned during March including: \tEncouraging youngsters in KidZone (childcare at the Monon Community Center) and Extended School Enrichment (ESE) as well as adaptive program participants to draw and color how they see themselves. These works will be used for an art display outside the Monon Community Center walking track. \tAdaptive program participants creating a video that will be posted throughout CCPR\u2019s social channels including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. \tEncouraging the public to post photos on Instagram during Disability Awareness Month while participating in activities and hashtag #ISEEYOU #ccprinclusion. \tPresenting two performances of \u201cI SEE YOU\u201d featuring The Roundabout Playback Troupe on March 18 and 19; both shows begin at 6 p.m. at the Monon Community Center.The theatric group, the only one of its kind in the United States, consists of individuals with and without disabilities. For the March performance, the group has written original monologues about their lives including strength, weakness, hope and the future. In addition they will improvise from story cues provided by the audience. Tickets are $5; an ASL interpreter will provide signing on March 19.Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation has received significant recognition regarding its inclusive approach to programming including receiving an award from the Indiana Governor's Council for Disability Awareness for, \u201can organization that has organized an exemplary Disability Awareness Campaign that has changed attitudes and enhanced the perception of the value and contributions of people with disabilities." CCPR serves over 2,000 individuals with disabilities in over 750 classes annually.
