Looking for a fun way to get out and explore Indianapolis with your family and friends? Then try a scavenger hunt! Indy is a city with lots of things to do and see, and there are several options for fun, family-friendly scavenger hunts in our great city.

A scavenger hunt is a fun and and cooperative activity for all ages. It also allows you to learn more about the history of Indianapolis, and all of the unique architecture, entertainment venues, local restaurants and shops, and government buildings that are around town. By spending the afternoon solving riddles and completing challenges, you’ll have fun and learn fun facts about Indianapolis that you didn’t know before!

Here are a few fun scavenger hunts in Indy that are great for families: 

Operation City Quest

Starting location: Indiana State Capitol, 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis

This scavenger hunt is self-led with an app on your smartphone. Participants are given a list of challenges to complete and riddles to solve. Don’t worry — a remote host is available online if you get stuck, and the app displays a scoreboard with points earned by other recent participants. 

Try to gain as many points as possible to beat out the other teams. At each stop, take a photo and upload the item you were searching for and get extra points for completing a special challenge. Most of all, have fun!

Zombie Scavengers of Indianapolis

Starting location: Indiana State Capitol, 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis

Talk about getting the kids excited to experience their home city. In another self-led, app- driven scavenger hunt, participants are looking for items throughout the downtown area needed to survive a zombie apocalypse. 

The zombie-themed challenges are fun and can be completed in under an hour. Not only is there a virtual host, but the zombie hunt is a national program that allows you to compete with other teams across the country.

Wacky Walks Scavenger Hunt

Starting location: Indiana State Capitol, 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis

Compete in a royal tournament to determine the King and Queen of your group. But watch out! You could lose the title if another in the group gains more points. There are 60 items to find throughout the city and a list of challenges to complete. This hunt also includes an app and virtual host to help along the way.
