Kids of all ages and abilities can explore 18 different slides, adaptive swings, climbing structures and more at this fully fenced playground. Every element blends fun with accessibility, giving children who use wheelchairs or have other mobility needs the chance to play right alongside their friends and siblings.

The playground meets all Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, creating a space where children of all abilities play and learn side by side. Harrison County built it to replace the park’s older playground from the 1980s, using a combination of county funds, American Rescue Plan money and a Harrison County Community Foundation grant.

How Possibility Playground Got Its Start
Possibility Playground grew from one local family’s dream. Joshua Bowen, a Harrison County father, wanted a place where his son Max, who uses a wheelchair, could play on the same equipment as other kids. Bowen worked with Harrison County Parks Superintendent Larry Shickles and a playground advisory board to bring the idea to life. The project took five years from initial planning to opening day, overcoming delays from COVID-19 and supply chain issues along the way.
The Harrison County Parks Department shared this message ahead of the grand opening:
“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has made this dream a reality. None of this would have been possible without the dedication, hard work, and unwavering support of our community. Your participation and contributions, whether big or small, have played a critical role in making this project a success. We are confident that this playground will bring joy and create memories for generations to come.”
