Q&A with JA BizTown Summer Camp:
What makes JA BizTown Summer Camp unique?
JA BizTown Summer Camp offers a hands-on, immersive experience where campers step into real-world business roles, operate two different businesses each week, and explore career pathways through interactive simulations, guest speakers, and teamwork—all inside JA BizTown’s mini-city environment.
What activities are offered?
Campers participate in operating businesses at JA BizTown, rotating through different jobs, creating a simple business plan, engaging with guest speakers from local companies and universities, completing vision board activities, joining career exploration discussions, and tackling interactive challenges that build confidence, teamwork, and financial literacy.

What is the camper-to-counselor ratio?
Approximately one staff member (counselor) per 10 campers, with a maximum of 70–80 campers per week.
How much time do the campers spend outside?
Camp activities take place indoors so campers can focus on interactive learning experiences in a safe, structured, air-conditioned setting.
Does the camp provide lunch/snacks, or do parents need to provide them?
All children must bring their own lunch every day. Snacks are optional, and campers are welcome to bring them. By mid-week, campers will also have the opportunity to “purchase” snacks and drinks with JA MONEY (no real money needed). All children in extended camp will be provided with a morning snack. A water fountain and water bottle refill station are available near the restrooms.
What is the typical daily schedule?
Campers spend about half the day immersed in JA BizTown’s interactive mini-city, operating businesses and exploring career roles. The remainder of the day includes engaging activities with guest speakers, collaborative projects, indoor recess, and a dedicated lunch period to recharge.
How old are the counselors, and how are they trained?
Counselors are JA BizTown staff members who work at JA BizTown year-round, and all are age 18+.
What accommodations are made for campers with special needs?
The team strives to create a supportive environment for all campers and reviews accommodation needs on a case-by-case basis. Staff can provide additional guidance, allow extra time for activities, and offer access to quiet spaces when needed. Because this camp centers on interactive simulations and group participation, a minimum level of independence and proficiency is recommended to help each camper fully engage and succeed.
Who is this camp best for?
JA BizTown Summer Camp is best for kids ages 9–12 who are curious, enjoy hands-on learning, like working with others, and want to explore how businesses, careers, and money work in the real world!
