Indoor Water Fun at Indy Island Aquatic Center

Weather shouldn’t stand in your way of having fun at the pool. Whether the temperature is below freezing or it’s blazing hot outside, you can have fun in the water at Indy Island Aquatic Center at Raymond Park. This indoor aquatic center is open year-round and features heated pools and water play for all ages and abilities.

When you step inside the aquatic center, one of the first things that will catch your eye is the huge, yellow waterslide that snakes above the water. This super fun, 15-foot-tall slide sends you careening around a few twists and turns before it shoots you out into the warm water below. You must be at least 48 inches tall to ride this waterslide, so very young kids will probably have to sit this one out.

But not to fear: The young ones have their own fun, too! There is a kid-friendly pool area that features a shallow place for tiny tots to wade and explore the water. The water in this area goes from zero to 3 feet in depth, so it’s great for kids who might just want to get their feet wet. The young-kid area also features a water playhouse with stairs to climb, slides, geysers and sprays. It also has a ramp entryway that leads right to the water, which is helpful for people who have special access needs.

If you’re not big on all the bells and whistles that come with visiting an aquatic park and you just want to swim, Indy Island has you covered, too. At the back of the center, there is a separate lap pool with three lanes that goes from 3½ feet to 6 feet in depth. Back here, away from the crowds, is where the spa is located, and it is reserved for adults only. You’ll also find lots of deck chairs for lounging and checking out the views.

Indy Island wants to ensure a safe and fun experience for everyone, so there are always several lifeguards walking around the perimeter of the aquatic center. One thing to note is that for safety’s sake, each child 9 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult and be within arm’s reach at all times.

Outside food and drink are not allowed at Indy Island, but they have a small snack bar in the lobby where you can purchase water, soft drinks and snacks like chips and ice cream, or even hot dogs and pizza by the slice.

Indy Island might not be the biggest indoor aquatic center in Indianapolis, but the price is hard to beat for the hours of indoor water fun you will have. Plus, you don’t have to wait for perfect weather to have a splashing good time!
