CarmelFest takes over downtown Carmel every Fourth of July, and for families on the north side, it is one of the closest things to a full-scale hometown Independence Day celebration. The festival runs Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 around Carmel Civic Square, City Hall and Carter Green, with festival activities from noon to 10 p.m. both days.
This is not just a “show up at dusk for fireworks” event. CarmelFest bills itself as Indy’s largest Independence Day celebration, and the schedule backs that up quickly: two days of live music, festival food, a marketplace, a KidsZone, the Allied Solutions CarmelFest Parade and a fireworks show synchronized to music.

Families can make CarmelFest as big or as manageable as they want. Stop by for KidsZone rides and snacks, claim a parade spot in the morning, come back for music and fireworks, or build the whole holiday around it. July stamina varies by family, and CarmelFest gives you room to make that call.
Festival activities run July 3 and 4
Festival activities run noon to 10 p.m. July 3 and 4. The footprint centers on Carmel Civic Square, Carmel City Hall and Carter Green, with food and drink vendors, local artists, a marketplace, live entertainment, a beer and wine garden and family activities all close together.
That compact setup helps when you have kids. You are not hiking from one end of town to the other every time someone wants a snack, a bathroom break or a change of scenery. Younger kids may do best with an afternoon visit and an early exit; older kids can usually hang for music, food and fireworks.

The KidsZone is the big family draw
The CarmelFest KidsZone sets up south of Carmel City Hall in the front parking lot. It has mechanical rides, obstacle courses, bungee jumping and a pet farm with animals to feed and pet. It is the part of the festival kids spot from far away and immediately ask to visit.
Ride tickets can be pre-ordered, and CarmelFest notes they are non-refundable, so it is worth sizing up what your kids will actually ride before buying a bundle. Some rides have height and age restrictions. The pet farm is included with ride tickets and has pony rides, goats and other animals.
There is no food or drink inside the KidsZone, but the marketplace has food and beverages on the other side of City Hall. The closest parking garage to the KidsZone is the Proscenium garage at 1200 S. Rangeline Road.
The CarmelFest parade starts July 4 morning
The Allied Solutions CarmelFest Parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 4 and is scheduled to run until noon. The route travels west on Carmel Drive, north on Rangeline Road and east on Main Street.
If you are watching in person, bring chairs, water and sunscreen, then claim a spot along the route. Shade can be limited, and July in central Indiana does what it does. If you cannot make it downtown, CarmelFest livestreams parade coverage beginning at 10 a.m. on its Facebook page.
Reserved ADA parking and viewing are at the southwest corner of Main Street and Rangeline Road. CarmelFest notes that parking is tight and encourages carpooling and ride-sharing.
Live music takes over two stages
CarmelFest runs live music across both days on the Gazebo Stage and the Carter Green Stage. The lineup leans local and regional, across a wide range of styles, from yacht rock, pop and classic rock to blues, rockabilly, soul and patriotic music.
Friday performers include Nauti Yachtys, Steel Petals, Kristen Bales, King Bee & The Stingers, GrooveSmash, Woomblies Rock Orchestra and the Indiana Wind Symphony. Saturday performers include Powerhouse, School of Rock, Naptown Hepcats, Royalkeys, DUDE!, Soul Street and the Carmel Symphony Orchestra.
School of Rock performs Saturday afternoon on the Gazebo Stage, a fun one for kids who like watching other kids actually get on stage and play. The Carmel Symphony Orchestra plays 8 to 9:40 p.m. July 4 on the Gazebo Stage, leading into the fireworks with patriotic favorites.

The fireworks are synchronized to music
The CarmelFest fireworks are scheduled for 9:45 p.m. Saturday, July 4. The show is synchronized to music on Carmel High School’s WHJE 91.3 FM, and CarmelFest recommends bringing an FM radio for the best experience because online streaming runs on a delay and won’t sync to the show.
The lawns and viewing areas around Civic Square fill well before dark, especially with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra playing beforehand. If your family wants the full music-and-fireworks experience, plan to get settled before the final rush.
CarmelFest says the fireworks are visible from around Carmel, with closer spots offering the best view. Midtown Plaza is another option, with the livestream on a big screen. Wherever you land, steer clear of tall buildings: at Carter Green, move away from the Tarkington Theatre before the show, and skip 126th and Rangeline, where City Center blocks the view.
Food, drinks and the marketplace
Civic Square fills with food vendors, drinks, local artists and marketplace booths during the festival. Families can browse, grab dinner or snacks, and take breaks between music, KidsZone activities and the parade or fireworks.

Adults will also find a beer and wine garden. You can bring your own food and drinks too, along with coolers, chairs and blankets.

- No drones: Drones are not allowed above the parade or festival areas.
- No pets: CarmelFest has a no-pet policy for the parade and festival areas because of the July heat and hot pavement. ADA service animals are allowed, with protective footwear and water recommended.
- Parking is tight: CarmelFest encourages carpooling and ride-sharing. Garages are available at Veterans Way, Tarkington and Midtown, with the Proscenium garage closest to the KidsZone.

CarmelFest works as a daytime outing, an evening concert plan, a parade tradition or a fireworks destination. You do not have to do all of it.
