A Halloween movie with trick-or-treating beforehand. A Christmas classic with a visit from Santa. Butler Arts’ Free Community Movie Series gives Indianapolis families a reason to arrive before the opening credits, with themed activities on select nights and free screenings at the Schrott Center for the Arts.
The upcoming lineup runs from Oct. 20 through Dec. 15, 2026. Every movie starts at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public, and no ticket is required.
Free movies at Butler this fall and holiday season
Hocus Pocus: Oct. 20
Halloween costumes get an extra outing at this screening of Hocus Pocus. Before the witches take over the screen, families can visit trick-or-treat stations in the lobby, get glitter tattoos and enjoy balloon twisting. Costumes are strongly encouraged, so this is a good night to arrive when doors open.
The Last Waltz: Nov. 24
Music fans have a date on the calendar, too. The Last Waltz documents The Band’s final concert, adding a concert film to the mix of Halloween adventures and holiday stories.
The Muppet Christmas Carol: Dec. 1
The Muppets bring their take on Scrooge’s story to the screen in The Muppet Christmas Carol. Families can make an evening of it by coming early for a Santa meet-and-greet, glitter tattoos and a Christmas-themed craft.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu: Dec. 8
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu follows Din Djarin and Grogu on another adventure. Before the screening, Star Wars character meet-and-greets, airbrush tattoos and balloon twisting give fans more to do than settle into their seats.
It’s a Wonderful Life: Dec. 15
The series closes with It’s a Wonderful Life. Santa returns for another meet-and-greet before the movie, along with glitter tattoos and a Christmas-themed craft.
Plan a movie night at the Schrott Center
Screenings take place at the Schrott Center for the Arts, 610 W. 46th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, on Butler University’s campus. Concessions are available for purchase, and Butler Arts’ concession stands accept cards only.
Parking is available in the Sunset Avenue garage. Budget separately for parking and check Butler’s current parking information, since garage rates can vary when campus events are taking place.
