All Aboard the Pumpkin Express

Nickel Plate Express

All aboard! If you’re looking for an out-of-the-ordinary Halloween experience this year, then hop aboard the Nickel Plate Express for one of their Halloween-themed train excursions: The Pumpkin Express and Ghost Express.

Train lovers of all ages will love the Pumpkin Express, a 20-minute train ride from downtown Atlanta, Indiana, to the Hamilton Heights Future Farmers of America pumpkin patch in Arcadia.

Once the Pumpkin Train reaches its destination at the pumpkin patch, visitors have about an hour to enjoy picking pumpkins, as well as other fall fun hosted by the FFA, including face painting, hay rides, an obstacle course, pumpkin bowling and corn hole. Games and activities are included in the admission, but bring cash to pay for pumpkins and snacks at the snack bar. Pumpkins range in price from $1 to $15, and all pumpkin proceeds go to support the local FFA chapter at Hamilton Heights.

Older kids and adults will enjoy a ride on the Ghost Express, which includes an eerie evening on the train while listening to local lore, and then visiting the haunted Roads Hotel. Because of the scary nature of this train ride, this experience is recommended for ages 16 and up.
