For Indianapolis families willing to make a longer summer day trip, Land of Illusion Aqua Adventures Waterpark in Middletown, Ohio, is about two hours from Indy and built around a lake, sandy beach areas and a large floating obstacle course. It is more climbing, balancing, sliding and splashing than lazy pool day, which is exactly the point.
The waterpark sits between Dayton and Cincinnati and works best for families who want an active water day with enough extras to keep different ages busy. For more summer road-trip ideas, see our guide to Indiana day trips for families and our roundup of water parks in Indiana.

The Wibit Adventure Zone
The main draw at Aqua Adventures is the Wibit Adventure Zone, a floating inflatable obstacle course with more than 100 obstacles. Families will find launch pads, cliffhangers, balance challenges, slides and larger action towers spread across the water. It is the kind of place where kids who like to climb, jump and fall in repeatedly will understand the assignment immediately.
The course is not a sit-back-and-watch attraction. Guests should expect to swim, pull themselves up, balance across slippery sections and start over more than once. Life jackets are required at all times in the water, and the park provides them for guest use.

Water Slides, Paddleboards and Games
Beyond the main obstacle course, Aqua Adventures includes The Racin’ Gators, a 150-foot dueling body water slide where two guests can race side by side. Paddleboards are available for rent at Paddle Bay, and the park also lists mini golf, cornhole, ping pong and other games as part of its Game Works area.
Families who do not want to spend the whole day on the obstacle course can use the beach areas, rent shade seating or take breaks for food and drinks. Sandy Cove and Aqua Lounge sell food, snacks, frozen treats, fountain drinks, tropical drinks and adult beverages.

Areas for Younger Kids
Aqua Adventures also has water-play areas designed for younger children, including the Toddler Splash Zone with splash features, smaller slides, shallow-water areas and sandy play zones. This makes the park more workable for families with mixed ages, especially if one child is ready for the larger floating course and another is firmly in the small-slide-and-sand stage.
Children ages 3 and under receive free admission, but the park says every guest entering Aqua Adventures still needs a completed waiver. A parent or legal guardian must complete waivers for guests under 18.

Good to Know Before You Go
Aqua Adventures is a cashless facility, so bring a credit card, debit card, Apple Pay or another accepted electronic payment method. Parking is available onsite for $10 per vehicle. Outside food, beverages, coolers, glass containers and pets are not permitted inside the park.
Water shoes or water socks are strongly recommended and are allowed on attractions. Regular shoes are not permitted on water attractions. The park operates rain or shine when conditions are safe, but water attractions close for lightning, thunder or severe weather. Because hours, ticket pricing and weather policies can affect a visit quickly, check the official calendar and ticket page before driving over from Indianapolis.
