Those happening folks at Yelp Indy are chatting us up on IndysChild.com again! We love them for keeping us in the loop on all-things-going-on-locally-for-Yelpers. Remember when they scooped the Top 5 Kid-Friendly Ways To Get Active In The Circle City? Or the Top 5 Ethnic Eats For Kids? We do. They’ve become some of our go-to lists. This month they’re taking us on a road trip to Bloomington to discover Btown’s top kid friendly spots. Take it away, Yelp!
WonderLab Museum of Science, Health and Technology
Yelpers like Erica G. can’t get enough of this “wonderful little gem of a children’s museum for a wide range of ages.” Located along the B-Line Trail, this award-winning science museum has two floors of hands-on educational activities. Be sure to check out current exhibition “Your Amazing Brain!” to learn the ins and outs of how our noggins work – there’s even a real human brain on display! Admission is $8 per person but free for ASTC Passport members.
Darn Good Soup
Just a short walk away from WonderLab, you’ll find the best soup in Bloomington at Darn Good Soup. Check out the chalkboard on the sidewalk to see the soups for the day. Expect classics like chicken tortilla and chili along with more adventurous concoctions like sweet potato coconut, tomato cashew, and West African chicken peanut. Gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options all available. You can even take your soup to go for a picnic on the square!
The Chocolate Moose
After slurping hot soup, you’ll want to cool your palate. It will feel as if you took a step back in time at this old-school soft serve ice cream window. Try The Chocolate Moose’s Oreo-meets-mint flavor, the grasshopper, which Yelper Clare L. says was “the best ice cream I’ve ever had.” Don’t forget to ask for some googly eyes to make your scoop come to life!
Lower Cascades Park
When the weather is nice, Lower Cascades Park is a must. Open daily from 5am-11pm, the park features a fully-accessible playground along with shelters and picnic areas. Follow the trail to a waterfall and explore the beautiful nature close to downtown Bloomington. Find some peace and tranquility… at least, until the kids get cranky!
Indiana University
A trip to Bloomington isn’t complete without a stop at Indiana University. A photo op at the Sample Gates, a sweet treat at Sugar and Spice in the Indiana Memorial Union, flying kites in Dunn Meadow…the possibilities are endless! No wonder IU is regularly ranked as one of the most beautiful college campuses in America. All museums on campus are free, so check out the Mathers Museum of World Cultures, Indiana University Art Museum, and more, which each feature kid-friendly programming!
