It’s indoor playground season! As the winter months creep along, our family loves to visit indoor play areas where the kids can burn off some energy. My toddler and preschooler have been craving park time, so we decided to spend an afternoon at The Park at Traders Point Christian Church.
Located in Whitestown just north of the I-865 and I-65 split, it was a quick and easy 20-minute drive from our northside Indy preschool. The best part about this play space … it’s FREE to the community! The only requirements are a government-issued ID for adults and play socks for children.
Excitement at First Sight
My boys were thrilled at the sight of the large colorful play structures that could be seen from the parking lot outside. It was an extra gray and rainy day so we were ready to create our own sunshine. We hung up coats and took off shoes in the lobby, then quickly proceeded to check-in.
At the check-in desk, a friendly Park Ranger scanned my ID while I completed the simple registration form. The form can be filled out online before your first visit or is easily accessible through a QR code upon arrival.
Once registered and checked in, the attendant printed name tags for all of us. Not only are the name tags helpful for keeping track of all of the kids running around, but they also list each group’s arrival time. This came in handy because The Park reached capacity during our visit. We were kindly reminded via an intercom announcement to please limit play time to one hour so new visitors didn’t have to wait too long to enter.
Two Play Areas Meet Different Age Needs
There are two separate play spaces in The Park. The toddler area is for children three and under and the larger structure is for older kids to enjoy.
While the little ones play, there are plenty of tables and benches where parents and caregivers can sit, relax and chat. A nice adult conversation while your kids are happily occupied is always a plus! Food and drink are permitted in The Park so it’s also nice to be able to bring snacks to enjoy.
Currently, The Park at Traders Point is open Wednesday through Sunday 1 pm-5 pm with additional morning hours on Friday and Saturday from 8 am-12 pm. There was a whole lot of running, jumping, playing, smiling, giggling and joyful screeching from all of the young visitors while we were there. The Park is a perfect place to shake out the winter wiggles, and it’s sure to cheer everyone up on a dreary winter day.
