Museum Day Live! - an annual day of free admission at select museums across the country - will be celebrated on Saturday, September 21, thanks to Smithsonian Magazine. What is Museum Day Live? For one day only, participating museums across the United States - with a wide range of diverse exhibitions - will channel the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington DC-based facilities (which offer free admission every day) and open their doors for FREE to those who download a Museum Day Live! ticket. How do I get tickets? Tickets are free and available online for download. Keep in mind that one ticket is good for one person + one guest and restrictions note one ticket is permitted per household. Additional guests are required to pay full admission (prices dependent on museum). Tickets can be printed or shown on a smartphone. Which museums in Indiana are participating? Indianapolis area Conner Prairie 13400 Allisonville Road, Fishers At Conner Prairie, visitors are inspired to ask questions about Indiana’s past and the world around you. Walking through the visually captivating exhibit rooms and performance venue, guests are invited to fulfill their dreams of being a percussionist. Museum of Miniature Houses & Other Collections 111 East Main Street, Carmel The Museum of Miniature Houses in Carmel, Indiana is one of only five museums in the country devoted to the art of scale miniatures. Our permanent collection is housed in seven rooms and comprises 30 fully-furnished houses, 50 room settings and collections that range from dolls to slide rules to antique linens. Indiana Historical Society 450 W Ohio St, Indianapolis he Indiana Historical Society is one of the United States' oldest and largest historical societies and describes itself as "Indiana's Storyteller". NCAA Hall of Champions 700 W. Washington Street, Indianapolis The NCAA Hall of Champions boasts two-levels of interactive exhibits to engage visitors and create a true-to-life understanding of what it takes to make the grade. Arena, on the first level, has all 24 NCAA sports represented and includes a novice to historian trivia challenge, current team rankings, video highlights, and artifacts donated from colleges around the nation Eiteljorg Museum 500 W Washington St, Indianapolis Explore the art, history and cultures of the West and Native America at the Eiteljorg Museum. Celebrating 30 years of telling amazing stories, the Eiteljorg Museum contains some of the most renowned collections of Native American and Western art and objects in the world, and offers can’t-miss special exhibitions and dynamic programming for guests of all ages. Other Museums Located In Indiana North Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum 1600 Wayne Street, Auburn The Museum inhabits the former Auburn Automobile Company’s international headquarters building, a place where history was made over 75 years ago. MSNBC News named the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum one of the “Top Ten Gearhead Destinations in the United States.” Brauer Museum of Art 1709 Chapel Dr., Valparaiso Museum of American art and internationally religious art, with a permanent collection of approx. 3700 pieces. The History Museum 808 West Washington, South Bend The History Museum is the site of the Oliver Mansion, a 38-room historic house that was once home to the J.D. Oliver family. All furnishings are original to the home, providing an excellent glimpse of how the family lived. Lake of Red Cedars Museum 7408 Constitution Ave, Cedar Lake The Lake of the Red Cedars Museum features settings and special exhibits highlighting the history of Cedar Lake. The museum maintains a 1920's flavor in keeping with Cedar Lake's tradition as a resort destination for Chicago's high society during the Prohibition era. Porter County Museum 153 Franklin Street, Valparaiso The Porter County Museum--also known as the PoCo Muse--is a small, yet dynamic institution that aims to share the stories of Porter County and its people. University of Notre Dame Museum of Biodiversity 157 Jordan Hall, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN The Museum of Biodiversity showcases the Department of Biological Sciences’ extensive collections of amphibians, fish, birds, mammals, insects, parasites, and fossils that have been collected over the last 150 years. As part of the museum, the herbarium preserves the fragile and delicate collection of dried and pressed plants of the Greene-Nieuwland Herbarium. Central Montgomery County Historical Society at Lane Place 212 S. Water St, Crawfordsville The Montgomery County Historical Society is housed in Lane Place, the home of Senator Henry S. Lane and his wife, Joanna. They built the home in 1845 and 95 percent of the artifacts in the home belonged to the Lanes General Lew Wallace Study & Museum 200 Wallace Ave., Crawfordsville The General Lew Wallace Study & Museum celebrates the life and legacy of Civil War General Lew Wallace, author of best-selling religious novel Ben-Hur, territorial governor of New Mexico, and US Minister to the Ottoman Empire. Howard County Museum, Seiberling Mansion 1200 West Sycamore, Kokomo A beautiful collection celebrating historic Howard County of Indiana. Housed inside the Seiberling Mansion which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the US Department Of The Interior in 1972. National Model Aviation Museum 5151 E. Memorial Drive, Muncie The museum and library is dedicated to collecting and preserving significant pieces of model aviation history. South Atheneum 401 Arthur St, New Harmony The stunning building, which serves as the Visitors Center for New Harmony, houses exhibits on the communal history of New Harmony, a large theater where an orientation film on the town is shown, and the Museum Shop. Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science 411 S.E. Riverside Drive, Evansville The Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science maintains a permanent collection of fine art, decorative arts, historic documents and photographs, anthropological and natural history artifacts, and features Southern Indiana transportation artifacts from the late-19th through the mid-20th centuries. Life On The Ohio River History Museum 208 East Market Street, Vevay The "Life on the Ohio" River History Museum features a rare and diverse collection depicting life and work along the Ohio River, from the earliest flatboats to the rise and fall of the steam packets and towboats.
