Indiana Culinary Trail

Indiana Foodways Alliance is a non-profit dedicated to celebrating, promoting and preserving the food culture of Indiana. They’ve created the Indiana Culinary Trail, which details the best spots to experience unique dining, Indiana favorites and some state history along the way. Having a craving for a good tenderloin? Want to take the kids to a special ice cream shop? If you're up for a family adventure, pick a few locations across the state and make a weekend out of it. The Indiana Foodways Alliance has organized all of this information for you on their website. Click on the Indiana food trail of interest and find all locations in the state that specializes in that particular genre. There are currently more than 20 food trails to choose from. Here are a few that might spark your interest with young children in tow. I Scream for Ice Cream Trail Photo by Indiana Foodways Alliance Indiana has a variety of old-fashioned ice cream parlors. The I Scream for Ice Cream Trail includes a restored 1900s parlor, a 50’s themed ice cream parlor and new parlors created since 1965. Gobblers Knob in Bloomingdale features ice cream tacos (with a waffle shell). The Chocolate Moose in Farmland offers giant strawberry and chocolate sundaes. The Martinsville Candy Kitchen includes yummy and unique candies like tiger butter, buckeyes and English toffee as well as 24 ice cream flavors. “Za” Pizza Trail Photo by Indiana Foodways Alliance Bruno’s in West Lafayette has been around more than 50 years and offers traditional pizza along with dessert pizza featuring apple butter, peanut butter and chocolate chips. Since 1956, Art’s Pizza No. 1 in Anderson has been making homemade pizza with fresh ingredients. Try the Philly Cheese Steak pizza or the Roast Beef pizza. Procopio’s Pizza and Pasta in Vincennes offers signature pizzas with artichoke hearts, banana peppers, pineapple, shrimp and feta cheese options. Between the Buns Burger Trail Photo by Indiana Foodways Alliance For a good, juicy burger with all the fixings, Indiana Foodways has done their research. In one of their largest trails, featuring 46 stops, visitors can check out Grains and Grill in Fairmount. They offer chargrilled burgers with a side of loaded fries. Stacks in New Castle features the Stacks Grand with grilled onions, mushrooms and cheese, the Texas with cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce, among others. Pudder’s in Shelbyville is located in a historic downtown building and creates an atmosphere with cozy décor and brick wall interior.
