The deadline for ages 10-18 to apply to serve as youth volunteers in Conner Prairie\u2019s popular\u00a0youth volunteer program\u00a0in 2017 is\u00a0Jan. 6. Conner Prairie\u2019s youth volunteer program teaches youth ages 10-18 personal development skills in a hands-on, immersive and fun environment. Youth volunteer in both historic costumes and modern clothes throughout the museum\u2019s historic grounds, indoor experiences and more. Youth also volunteer at special events that Conner Prairie stages throughout the year. Staff members guide youth throughout the year to help them develop and enhance people skills, including how to speak with, interact with and engage museum visitors of all ages. Youth are required to volunteer for one full year and achieve a minimum of 120 hours. \u201cA big focus of the program is on character development,\u201d said Conner Prairie Youth Experience Manager Sarah Morin. \u201cWhen we poll the youth and their parents at the end of each year, they commonly cite how the program helped them develop confidence, a strong work ethic, communication skills and an ability to work as part of a team.\u201d The application process is highly competitive. Just 100 spots are available and typically, hundreds of youth seek a spot in the program.
