Flat Fork Creek Park in Fishers spans more than 60 acres and offers year-round outdoor fun for families. Located on the east side of Fishers, it's one of those parks where kids can run free, explore nature, and actually get dirty the way we all did growing up. Whether you're looking for a winter sledding adventure or a summer afternoon spent fishing and hiking, this park delivers. Here's what makes it worth the trip. 1. Three Treehouses to Explore (Including One That's ADA-Accessible) Flat Fork Creek Park has three wooden treehouses scattered throughout the woods. One of them is ADA-accessible and connected to the park's paved trail system, while the other two require a short walk off-trail and a ladder climb to reach. Each treehouse offers a different vantage point for observing wildlife or just soaking in the scenery. For us, the treehouses were a huge hit with the kids. They couldn't wait to climb all three! It felt like a real adventure, right in the middle of the park. 2. The Best Sledding Hill in Hamilton County The park's 60-foot sledding hill is the tallest point in Hamilton County, and it's a major draw every winter. Families from all over the area come here with sleds, saucers, and tubes in tow. A paved, ADA-accessible ramp leads to the top of the hill, so visitors of all abilities can enjoy the climb and the panoramic views of the park. One thing to know if you're bringing little ones (5 and under): the climb can wear them out quickly. When we bring our younger kids, we usually tell them we'll go down twice, maybe three times if we're lucky. After that, they're usually ready to call it a day. Getting everyone bundled up in their winter gear can feel like a chore, but seeing their faces light up as they zoom down the hill makes it all worth it. A big bonus: the sledding hill is right next to the parking lot and restrooms, so you don't have to trek across the park to get started. The kids love "climbing mountains," as they call it, and it's a great way for them to burn off energy year-round. 3. A Stocked Fishing Pond (Catch and Release) If fishing is your thing, the pond at Flat Fork Creek Park is a nice spot to cast a line. It's stocked and managed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and like all Fishers park ponds, it's catch and release only. In Indiana, kids under 18 can fish without a license. Adults 18 and older will need a valid state fishing license, which you can purchase online through the Indiana DNR. If you want to try fishing without buying a license first, Indiana offers four statewide Free Fishing Days each year when residents can fish public waters without a license. In 2026, those dates are May 10, June 6-7, and September 26. It's a great chance to introduce kids to the sport or test the waters yourself. 4. ADA-Accessible Trails, Boardwalks, and Facilities Flat Fork Creek Park was designed with accessibility in mind from the start. The paved multi-use trail and boardwalk that loop through the park are ADA-accessible, as are the ramps leading to the top of the sledding hill and one of the treehouses. That means visitors of all abilities can enjoy the views, the treehouses, and the trails without barriers. When my kids were still in strollers, I really appreciated those accessible paths. Being able to hike with them, even when they needed a stroller, was something I always looked forward to. The paved trails also make this park a solid option for grandparents, wheelchair users, or anyone who needs a smooth surface to navigate. 5. Trails for Hiking, Biking, and Creek Stomping There's something incredibly refreshing about a walk in the woods, and Flat Fork Creek Park has a mix of paved and unpaved trails that wind through more than 60 acres of green space and reforested areas. Some paths are easy strolls, while others offer more of a challenge. For mountain biking, the park has a 1.25-mile progressive course that loops through the woods and includes ramps and technical features for both beginners and more experienced riders. Single-track trails are also available. Check the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association's page for current trail conditions before you visit. And don't overlook creek stomping, which is one of the park's best-kept secrets. Kids can wade into Flat Fork Creek to catch minnows, build rock dams, skip stones, and hunt for crawdads. Water shoes and a change of clothes are highly recommended. Good to Know Before You Go Address: 16141 E 101st Street, Fishers, IN 46040, near the intersection of 101st Street and Cyntheanne Road. Hours: The park is open year-round, dawn to dusk. Restrooms: Available near the parking lot and sledding hill. Parking: Free parking is available right at the park entrance. Reforestation areas: Nearly 20 acres of the park are dedicated to reforestation, protecting local habitat.
