Summer Vacation…The Beginning

Summer vacation is here. Which means no more waiting at a bus stop. No more drives to the co-op. Time to put on flip-flops and start doing belly flops.

Yesterday, my wife read in the new Indy’s Child the magazine (shameless plug) there was a summer kids concert today. So I called my buddy, we loaded up our kids this morning and off to the concert we went. Of course, I forgot to bring anything along with us for the trip, luckily my buddy Joe packed enough food for all of us and a blanket to sit on.

We got there a few minutes early and found a spot on the park lawn. Before we knew it all five kids were eating/attacking the snacks. The original plan was to save the snacks until the end of the show, but plans change, now all snacks were consumed and it was still three minutes until showtime.

Once the band started many of the kids headed down to the stage to dance and have fun. My kids refused to go to the stage. Joe suggested to me that maybe my kids needed a couple of Capri Suns to loosen up before they would get out on the dance floor. Just like their dad, I guess.

The funniest part was the end of the show, watching a bunch of little kids dance to Margaritaville. It felt like a Jimmy Buffett concert for kids.

Overall, I think everyone had a good time. It was a great way to kick off the summer and I think we will probably attend more these weekly concerts.

Maybe if the next one is also like a Buffett concert I’ll sneak in some tequila in my “barnoculers” just like the old days at real Jimmy Buffett concerts.
