Stop by to Visit the Easter Bunny

Spring is here. Flowers are beginning to bloom. Windows are being thrown open to let in the fresh air. The sun is shining (hopefully) and the Easter Bunny has made his way to town.

To celebrate the start of spring and the upcoming Easter holiday, my family and I ventured to Castleton Square Mall to get a glimpse of the fuzzy, long-eared bunny himself. The kids were all very excited when we told them our plan for the day.

Thankfully, they are past the point of being afraid of the giant bunny. For years, we would have at least one child who would freeze in sheer terror the moment they realized we actually wanted them to sit on the Easter Bunny’s lap. They would look at us like, “You’ve got to be kidding me. I will wave from a 10-foot distance, but there is no way I am getting on that lap.” They inevitably always would and, even if they were scared at the time, they would walk away feeling brave and excited that they had actually met the Easter Bunny.

Today, the kids all walked up boldly and sat on his lap. They know this means that spring is here and Easter is right around the corner and that is good reason for them to all feel very hoppy. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

For those of you who have children with special needs, you may want to consider bringing your child to one of Simon Mall’s special Caring Bunny events. Being held on Sunday, April 2, at Castleton Square Mall and Greenwood Park Mall from 9:00-10:30am and The Fashion Mall at Keystone from 9:30-11:00am.

Caring Bunny is a special program where steps are taken to reduce sensory triggers. Children will have an opportunity to visit with the Bunny in a subdued environment. According to Krisheena Fitzpatrick, “This is a very special event that occurs before the mall is open so that we have the opportunity to work one-on-one with families.” There will be coloring and other activities for the children and families will each receive four free greeting cards as a gift for attending. Photos will be taken and available for purchase so that families can remember this event.
