Saturday night I had the best date night! My husband and I ventured downtown for dinner and a show. We went to see Romeo & Juliet at the Indiana Repertory Theatre. It was all I had hoped it would be and more. The story line followed the traditional Shakespeare classic but with a contemporary twist. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

This was our first visit to the IRT so I didn’t know exactly what to expect. I was impressed. The building itself is gorgeous. I was mesmerized by how beautiful it looked all lit up at night. My excitement grew as we crossed the street to step inside. We picked up our tickets from Will Call and headed to grab refreshments before the show.

It was finally time for the House to open. Romeo & Juliet at the Indiana Repertory Theatre was action packed from the moment it started. They utilized the whole stage as well as all of the aisles around the seats. Aaron Kirby, Romeo, was brilliant. You could feel every emotion he was evoking. He and Sophia Macías, Juliet, were amazing together. Their beautiful but dark love story is a true testament to young love.

I loved the humor in parts of the show. I found myself smiling and laughing as if I were watching friends. The cast did such a wonderful job telling this timeless story. I stayed totally immersed in the show the whole time. When Romeo drank the poison I wanted to stand up and shout “no!” I was deeply invested.
