Reci-please

Have those New Year’s resolutions to get healthy waned? No need to despair, spring brings with it a renewal for what can be. March is National Nutrition Month® and this year’s theme is “Bite Into a Healthy Lifestyle.” Most people know that eating healthy foods and exercising are important for maintaining good health, but many still fall short in one or both of these habits. As adults, it is important to model better choices to support healthy habits in the children trying to emulate us.

Instead of being overwhelmed thinking about what to take out of your diet, consider what you can add to it. Keep fresh fruit and vegetables cut up and ready to serve in your refrigerator. Try raw sweet potato sticks as an alternative to carrot sticks. And for an extra kick, try this quick and easy dip for vegetables, pita crisps or pretzels:

Quick Hummus Dip

Spread 1 1/2 cups hummus in a shallow pan or on a large plate
Top with:
1/2 cup chopped spinach
1/2 cup diced cucumbers
1/2 cup diced tomatoes (Roma, cherry or grape work best)
1/4 cup shredded carrots

Enjoy!
