Out and About: Hamilton County

Leslie Spencer, a mom from Fishers, Indiana, had her life forever changed when her baby girl, Lila was diagnosed with dwarfism weeks before her birth in November, 2012. Leslie and her family experienced a wide range of emotions with the news, but says her family became the recipient of an outpouring of love and support from all over the community. Leslie now desires to give back and share that same inspirational love on June 19 through “Free to Be,” a special event to support other families in need.

“After my daughter Lila was diagnosed with dwarfism, my family and I were overwhelmed in the best way possible with support coming from every direction. We were receivers of so much love and still are to this day! I’m all about this thing I call ‘stranger love.’ We all have this inside of us. It’s just that we may not be connected enough to know how we can love on strangers,” says Spencer. “Free to Be” is a unique event that seeks to connect women on every path of life and help them better understand this ‘stranger love.’ “The “Free To Be” Event is for any woman wanting to make a difference, form new friendships and become inspired. The whole premise behind “Free To Be” is coming together as women in an accepting, loving and non-judgmental way, ready to be there for those who need us and for each other,” says Spencer.

Grab your girlfriends and come on out to The Barn in Zionsville on June 19 for a night of appetizers, giveaways and heart-moving stories of Indiana families who are walking difficult roads. “This party will force your heart to be moved. I imagine you will laugh and cry, and laugh and cry some more. You will feel accepted, comfortable, inspired and challenged. You can listen, you can share, you will make friends. This night will be what you make of it but I guarantee you will leave wanting more,” says Spencer.

“Free to Be” will take place on Thursday, June 19th from 6:30-9:30PM at The Barn in Zionsville. Tickets are $25 each.
