Danie Leever was out enjoying a walk with her dog when she stumbled upon a little grey house up for rent in downtown Fishers, IN last year. She had been upcycling vintage furniture from her garage for quite some time and had recently outgrown the space. With a little encouragement from her husband, a dose of creative vision and a big leap of faith, Danie opened up Best of What’s Around in the little grey house on 116th Street in downtown Fishers on February 1, 2013.
Best of What’s Around features a variety of vintage furniture, home decor and “pretty things” as Danie likes to say, made by local artisans. From the perfect dining table for your home to the adorable baby shower gift, the shop offers something for everyone. “I’ve been so blessed to have the clients and shoppers I’ve had come through my door. Over the past year, I’ve come to know about 75% of them by first name. It’s so great to be able to chat throughout the day, help someone find a great side table for their new chair, or find the great accent piece they need to complete a space,” says Danie.
In addition to the products Danie carries in the shop, she is pleased to offer custom work, specializing in updating client’s existing pieces. “There’s nothing better than a good reveal when a client brings me a desk that’s been beaten up and abused, but has sentimental value because it was someone’s grandmother’s desk. Updating it to fit in a client’s home is great fun for me,” she says.
