Jack O’Lantern Spectacular at Kentucky Kingdom 2026

One of Louisville’s best-known fall events has a new home. Jack O’Lantern Spectacular is now inside Kentucky Kingdom, where its trail of more than 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins is part of the park’s larger Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom fall festival.

That changes the outing. Instead of a standalone illuminated trail in the woods at Iroquois Park, families get a full theme park visit: more than 30 rides running into the night, trick-or-treating, a hay maze, live entertainment and more than 1,000 additional illuminated pumpkins around the park. The Jack O’Lantern Spectacular trail is included with regular admission.

Don’t head to the old location. Jack O’Lantern Spectacular is at Kentucky Kingdom, 937 Phillips Lane in Louisville. Iroquois Park is hosting a separate event on the same dates called Jack’s Lantern Trail, which benefits the Parks Alliance of Louisville. It lives at the Spectacular’s old web address, which is part of why the two are easy to mix up.

Jack O’Lantern Spectacular moves to Kentucky Kingdom

Now in its 14th year in Louisville, Jack O’Lantern Spectacular is produced in partnership with Passion for Pumpkins, a company with 25 years of experience creating illuminated pumpkin displays. The trail moved with its producer, and the same local artists and sculptors continue to carve the pumpkins. The trail is still about a quarter mile long.

The carvings go well beyond triangle eyes and a jagged grin. Detailed images are arranged around an annual theme, and this year’s is Planet Pumpkin: A Glo-bal Adventure, with landmarks, traditions and cultural icons from around the world. It’s a callback to the event’s first Louisville theme, Journey Around the World.

The Spectacular is one piece of a full theme park fall event. Across the park there are more than 6,000 illuminated pumpkins in total, counting the trail, plus more than 30 rides running from opening into the night, trick-or-treat stations with free candy, a hay maze, pumpkin-themed carnival games, fall photo spots, live entertainment and seasonal food.

After dark, the park’s Glow Nights displays come on: a 12-foot Derby horse, a giant pumpkin spider, a glowing cat, a pumpkin bluegrass band called the Pumpkinseeds and a 60-foot light tunnel in Discovery Meadow.

Family-friendly costumes are welcome. Masks are allowed only for kids under 12, and no weapons or anything that looks like one.

How the Jack O’Lantern Spectacular trail works

The trail opens at 6 p.m. each event night, and families move through at their own pace. It winds through the Castaway Creek area of Hurricane Bay, one of the park’s more heavily landscaped sections, with Kentucky-native plantings.

There is no timed ticketing. Tickets are for a specific date, but you don’t reserve a trail entry window. The trail has its own entrance, and if there’s a line, you’re waiting inside a theme park. Ride something and come back. The Kentucky Kingdom app shows ride wait times, the daily show schedule and where every pumpkin sculpture and photo spot is.

The trail accommodates strollers and wheelchairs from entrance to exit. Pathways are paved, level and lit, and you can bring your own stroller, wheelchair or ECV. Rentals are first come, first served at Wheels 4 Rent near the front gate, and strollers and ECVs can be reserved in advance. Photos are encouraged on the trail, but flash isn’t.

A few things to know before visiting

Arrive before dark

Saturdays open at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m., while the trail doesn’t open until 6 p.m. That leaves a few hours for rides and the daytime festival before the pumpkins take over. Wednesday through Friday the park opens at 5 p.m., so plan on about an hour of rides first.

Know the chaperone policy

Guests 15 and younger must be accompanied by a supervising adult who is at least 21. One adult may supervise up to six minors, must show a valid government-issued photo ID at entry and must stay inside the park for the visit.

Plan ahead for sensory sensitivities

Kentucky Kingdom says to expect large crowds in queue lines and on midways, loud music, noise from rides and entertainment, plus lights of varying color and brightness along the trail and around the park. Guest Services hosts can answer specific questions before or during a visit.

Is Jack O’Lantern Spectacular worth the drive from Indianapolis?

The move changes the calculation. Jack O’Lantern Spectacular is no longer an evening trip built around one illuminated walking trail. Admission comes with a theme park full of fall activities, and the trail becomes the evening centerpiece rather than the whole night.

Families who loved the wooded setting at Iroquois Park should expect something very different. The trail now sits inside an operating theme park, with rides, music, live entertainment and crowds surrounding the experience. The carvings are still the work of Passion for Pumpkins and the same local artists, but everything around them is new.

For Indianapolis families willing to make a full Louisville day of it, that’s the biggest advantage of the move. There’s enough happening before the trail opens to make the drive about more than a walk through pumpkins after dark.
