Indy Parks: Staff Returns to Facilities, Day Camp Registration Begins

Indy Parks has announced plans for staff to return to family centers and facilities in two phases beginning on June 1.

Initially, park buildings will remain closed to the public as staff offer telephone assistance and make appointments for services requiring in-person assistance. Day camp registration will also begin on Monday, giving parents and guardians an opportunity to register for 13 day camps. Registration was halted in April as Indy Parks evaluated ways to safely manage children in smaller groups and with new guidelines in place.

“As staff return to their parks, we are taking every precaution to make sure these spaces are safe for the people we serve and for our entire team,” said Linda Broadfoot, Indy Parks director. “It is going to be a great summer as communities work together to stay healthy. Park visitors can count on us to continue to provide the very best services in our city’s parks.”

Indy Parks Updates for June 1:

  • Family Centers and Facilities (including the Customer Service Center)
Staff will be available via telephone and email on Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Staff will also handle in-person transactions by appointment only. Park buildings will be closed to the public until June 15. There will be no weekend services, activities, or programs during this time. Indy Parks will continue its free meals program (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) at designated parks around the city.
  • Day Camp Registration Reopens
Indy Parks is offering 13 summer day camps, which initially began registration in January 2020. Registration was halted in April to evaluate summer plans amid the COVID-19 pandemic. On June 1, registration will reopen for remaining spots with camps starting on June 15. To register call (317) 327-PARK, visit indyparks.org, or contact your preferred day camp directly. Day camps begin on June 15 with new guidelines and safety procedures.

Next week, Indy Parks will unveil its summer pool schedule along with plans to reopen additional amenities. With the current safety procedures, the parks department anticipates that not every one of its 20 pools will open. More details will be provided by Indy Parks next week.
