It’s the most wonderful time of the year! This time of year there’s plenty of festive, fun and family friendly activities to go around. And while you’ll likely be shopping up a storm for the upcoming holidays, there are plenty of free activities for your family to enjoy.

Browse a winter farmers market

Markets from downtown Indy to Broad Ripple, Carmel to Fishers will host indoor farmers markets throughout the winter months. This is a great way to stock up on fresh local produce, baked goods, meat, poultry and more. Get the complete line up here.

Read to a furry friend

Nov. 4 | Indy Reads Books | 11:30 am-12:30 pm

Bring your child to Indy Reads Books every first and third Saturday to read to a very special reading dog! The rotating cast of certified reading therapy dogs make reassuring (and adorable) listeners.

Recycle responsibly during Power Recycling Weekend

Nov. 4-5 | The Indianapolis Zoo

Celebrate the season at the Holliday Park Fall Festival

Honor our heroes at the Fishers Veterans Day Celebration

Join Fishers Parks & Recreation to honor the brave men and women who have courageously served in the armed forces.

Or head downtown to the annual Veterans Day Parade

Nov. 11 | downtown Indy | noon

More than 80 units march in this annual parade, which begins at Michigan and Pennsylvania Streets, moves south on Pennsylvania to New York Street, west to Meridian Street and finishes at North Street. 

Lend Second Helpings a helping hand during Tiny Tonic

Nov. 11 | Second Helpings, 1121 Southeastern Avenue | 10-11:30 am

Bring rice or canned veggies to the Second Helpings office and enjoy a day of music with Ruditoonz. Tiny Tonic, presented by HMSHost, is a great introduction to community service for little ones.

Enjoy a Classical Concert at Central Library

Nov. 12 | Central Library, downtown Indianapolis | 2 pm

Experience the dynamic world of chamber music with members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra during Classical Concerts at Central Library. on Nov. 12.

Create your own Catapult

Nov. 15 | Wayne Branch library | 4 pm

Children ages 6 and older are invited to use their math and engineering skills to create a working catapult out of materials such as cans, tape and marshmallows.

Connect with special needs community at the Indy’s Special Child Resource Fair

Nov. 18 | The Monon Center | 1-4 pm

Head to the 2nd Annual Indy’s Special Child Resource Fair designed specifically for families of children with special needs. This is the perfect opportunity to connect with other families and local organizations dedicated to the special needs community in Central Indiana.

Spend a night playing games with the family

Nov. 21 | Fountain Square Library | 6-7:30 pm

Whether you prefer a night of Minecraft or your favorite board game – it’s your choice during Family Game Night at Fountain Square.

Drive through this always-impressive free light display in Fishers beginning Nov. 21.

Kick off the holiday season at Downtown Indy, Inc.’s Circle of Lights

Nov. 24 | Monument Circle | 6-8 pm

Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with the live televised show running from 7 – 8 p.m. on (NBC) WTHR-13. The Monument light-up will occur at approximately 7:50 p.m.
