The Nature Academy at Cool Creek invites you to explore the wonders of the natural world! This series of engaging evenings combines social interaction, expert-led presentations, hands-on activities, and outdoor exploration.
Each event begins with social time and refreshments at 6:30 PM, followed by a presentation on a fascinating nature topic. Depending on the subject, participants may engage in hands-on activities like moth watching or seed collecting, or venture outdoors to observe and learn in nature.
December 5
Rehab to the Rescue – A representative of Providence Wildlife will bring a live ambassador raptor as they share with us the trials and tribulations of rehabbing wild animals.
January 9
What the Hellbender? – Hellbenders, the largest salamander in the United States, are endangered in Indiana. A representative from Purdue’s Help the Hellbender program will educate us on the adversities the hellbender faces and what is being done to protect them.
February 13
Love is in the Air – It’s almost Valentine’s Day and a good time to look at some of the more extreme and entertaining mating rituals of wild animals. Hint: No leisure suits or gallons of cologne are needed
