Work and reading will be leveled to students depending on previous geography experience and ability, however it will require strong reading comprehension. This weekly class will incorporate 30 minutes of discussion, 15 minutes of mapping skills practice, a 15 minute break and the second hour will be games based learning in groups depending on ability…puzzles, board games, team based quiz/trivia games and creative projects. Each student will be required to create a final presentation on a continent of their choice to share with the group on the last day of class. The goals of this class are to become more familiar with continental geography, explore global cultures and ideas, practice team based learning and provide the opportunity for each student to use their public speaking skills to share a research project they have created on their own. Team based learning and independent presentation are vital life skills and are a very rewarding way to learn.
Material covered will prepare students for the Westfield Washington Public Library Geography Bowl competition.
