New Orleans-based Lightwire Theater brings Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale to the modern stage in a fresh theatrical experience for all ages – a cutting-edge blend of full-body puppetry, classical and pop music and expressive choreography lit by dazzling electroluminescent technology. The cast’s large, fanciful costumes are constructed from recyclables and household items, covered in black fabric and outlined in neon style with multicolored “el wire,” allowing the group to perform in complete darkness. A character can take nearly 200 hours to create and use up to 16 AA batteries per performance. Don’t be surprised to see dinosaurs, giant birds, soldiers and more! Booth Tarkington Theatre is located at 3 Center Green, Carmel, IN 46032.
