Get a taste of what’s coming this spring and summer on the Downtown Canal Walk. Downtown Indy, Inc. (DII), the civic nonprofit charged with marketing and managing events along the Downtown Canal, announces the third annual Canal Awakens April 21 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. This FREE event encourages attendees to get outside and explore many of the businesses, restaurants and attractions located along the 1.5-mile stretch of water.
Attendees are invited to pick up a Canal Awakens passport and map at the DII tent at the Walnut Street Basin (or any other marked passport location along the Canal) and then visit the businesses located along the waterway. Participating businesses include: 9 on Canal, Canal Square Apartments, Crossfit Infiltrate, Fresco Italian Café on the Canal, Indy Bikes & Boats, Indiana State Museum, Indiana Historical Society, IMAX Theatre, NCAA Hall of Champions, Old World Gondoliers, Soccer Indiana, White River State Park and the Stutz Artists Association.
Businesses will provide family-friendly activities and giveaways. Attendees can participate in Earth Day activities at the Indiana State Museum, enjoy free admission at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, take advantage of food and drink specials at Fresco Italian Café and more.
Those who visit all participating locations and return their passport to the any of the participating businesses will be entered to win giveaways including an Invoke Studio prize package, Indy Ultimate entries, free Indy Bikes & Boats rentals, Indiana State Museum tickets, IMAX passes and various other Canal goodies.
“We’re excited to bring this terrific event back for a third year,” said Courtney Howell, DII’s director of events. “Canal Awakens highlights the great attractions and restaurants along our unique urban waterway. It’s the perfect family-friendly event to take in the picturesque views of our Downtown.”
This event is free to attend and family (and pet) friendly.
The Canal Walk, a 3-mile loop, is a popular urban respite for fitness enthusiasts and serenity-seekers alike. The City of Indianapolis has engaged Downtown Indy, Inc. to manage and market events along the Canal Walk. Downtown Indy, Inc. works to enhance the vitality of adjacent properties and attract and host major special events and gatherings.
