Celebrate Tradition at Hispanic Heritage Fiesta

It’s a traditional celebration with a wild flair! The Indianapolis Zoo will host Hispanic Heritage Fiesta presented by Indiana Donor Network from noon-4pm on Sept. 17.

This festive, family-friendly event coincides with National Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins Sept. 15 and marks the anniversaries of independence for eight Latin American countries.

The atmosphere throughout the Zoo will transform into a street fair, with lots of vibrant color, activities and entertainment to enhance a fall visit.

Even the Zoo’s animals will be part of the festivities, enjoying themed enrichment throughout the afternoon. Plus, guests can travel the Zoo in a special scavenger hunt spotlighting species native to Latin America and learn more about these and other animals by discovering interesting artifacts.

Traditional music will fill the air as contemporary Hispanic trio Con Paz will perform, and additional performances by Anderson Folklorico Dance Troupe will have everyone grooving.

Younger guests can take a swing at a piñata each hour and create colorful, culturally themed crafts. Additionally, visitors can stop by the information booths of area businesses that proudly serve the Hispanic community.

A specialty food station will offer delicious dishes inspired by the flavors of Latin America, including tamales, street tacos, chips and salsa, churros and more. And in addition to the Zoo’s regular fare, guests can indulge at the Pavilion Café, the Zoo’s new eatery that features a barbecue-themed menu.

Hispanic Heritage Fiesta is free for Zoo members and included with regular admission. Guests can save money on their visit by buying discount tickets weekdays from La Voz de Indiana or by purchasing advance tickets at IndianapolisZoo.com.
