Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation Installs First Mamava Suite to Support Breastfeeding Moms

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) is the first park system within Indiana to offer a portable Mamava lactation suite for nursing moms at the Monon Community Center.

“Working out at the facility means you are away from your baby hours at a time. Women need appropriate accommodations to pump and we respect that need – both for our members and our employees,” said Kurtis Baumgartner, Monon Community Center Director. “From our family to yours, this lactation suite offers you a peaceful, sanitary and private place for you to pump/nurse your newest addition. Breastfeeding is welcome anywhere, but members or day pass users are welcome to use the lactation suite if they need a place to pump or a quieter place to nurse their baby. Nursing moms can find the suite at the Monon Community Center near the KidZone (childcare) area.”

Created by Mamava, a company dedicated to transforming the culture of breastfeeding by making it easier for more women to achieve their breastfeeding goals, the unit is a self-contained, mobile pod with comfortable benches, a fold-down table, an electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump and a door that can be locked for privacy. The 4-foot by 8-foot pod is meant for individual use, but can fit more than one person, as well as mothers with babies and other children in tow.

“Until now active women who need to breast pump while away from their babies, have had to pump in a bathroom, or worse yet, stay home due to the lack of amenities for nursing,” said Sascha Mayer, co-founder of Mamava. “We believe that all mamas deserve a clean, comfortable and dignified place to use a breast pump or breastfeed distraction-free—anywhere, anytime. Mamava pods provide flexibility for facilities and easy access for moms.”
