Theatre for Everyone

The houselights dim. The crowd falls to hush. The theatre experience is about to begin.

This isn’t it your typical play though.

During this play, every child is on stage at once. If you look behind the stage of students you will see all student-created set design pieces made specifically for this performance. In the background is a multi-media display with music blaring and pictures flashing by, again, all made by students.

This is not your typical play, this is Young Actors Theatre where the motto is theater for everyone. Young Actors Theater, or YAT for short, is more than just rehearsing and performing a play. Students are more than just actors; they do it all here. YAT calls it self-empowerment theater and from the moment the production starts you can see why. The kids own this play. They should feel this way too, after all, they are the ones that wrote it, created it, choreographed it, designed it, built and performed it.

YAT sees itself as doing more than putting on plays. YAT is building the creative class of the future. With ongoing classes throughout the year, kids have the option of joining season-long sessions either as actors, working on stage management, designing/making costumes, or creating video.

YAT also offers a large selection of week-long summer classes for all different ages.
