A Stay-at-Home-Dad Documentary? (Part 2)

As I mentioned in a previous post, (link- https://indyschild.com/Blog-6334.114134-7327.114134-A-StayatHomeDad-Documentary.html) producers from a TV network wanted to do an on camera interview (via Skype) with me about a possible stay at home dad show. Just like they had asked, I was camera ready; I combed my hair (sort of) and put on a shirt that had no food stains on it. Whether or not I put on makeup like the casting lady suggested is between me, my wife and God. I guess you’ll never know for sure about that one. Ha.

I had a picture in my mind of what the producer would look like and how the interview would feel. In my mind the person on the other end would be wearing a suit, with three or four other middle aged stodgy men in suits with them in the room. Instead, I opened up my laptop to see a kid (my guess is he was under 25, that makes him a kid right?) wearing a sweatshirt in the room by himself. The interview was laid back and relaxed. it was NOTHING like what I thought it would be.

He asked me all sorts of questions about being a stay at home dad. How did we make this decision? Do I feel like I’m spending my wife’s money? What do other people think about the decision? What do my days look like? Are my friends jealous? What fun things do I take my kids out to do? What things do I get to do as a stay at home dad that other parents miss out on?

The questions went on, and on, and on, and on. For over an hour.

Overall the interview went great. If nothing ever comes of it and there is no TV show, I’m still glad I did it. If nothing else, it reaffirmend why I stay home with my kids. After all, I just spent an hour talking about how awesome it was to be home with them.

It was really rewarding to explain to someone and reflect about why I made the decision to stay home with my kids in the first place.

Stay tuned for an update,

-Pete
