A Holiday Tradition: Winterfest in Fortville

Winterfest, a family-friendly event in the town of Fortville, is set for Saturday, December 2 from noon to 7 p.m. This free, one-day event has become a holiday tradition for many Indiana families. This year’s festival is sure to kick start the holiday spirit!

“Winterfest 2023 will be packed with even more vendors, parade entries, tasty holiday eats and holiday spirit,” says Natalie Tucker, Fortville Parks Department event coordinator. “We hope all of Central Indiana will join us this year to experience the wonder and magic of the holidays in our charming town.”

Family-friendly Fun at Winterfest

During the festival, Main Street will be blocked, and festival-goers will be able to enjoy Fortville’s charming downtown shops, eateries, live music, bonfire stations, family photo ops, vendors, and a kids’ zone.

Additional activities include a festive parade at 1:30 p.m., a tree lighting at 6 p.m., visits with Santa, ice skating, a gaming truck, and a kids’ crafts station with free popcorn and hot cocoa. Additionally, the popular snowflake princess and Jack Frost contest is back again this year. Throughout November, contest participants enjoy Winterfest-themed activities, learn a dance, and work to raise funds to support causes within the community.

The kids’ zone and all festival vendors and businesses open at noon. Many of the local Fortville eateries will stay open well past the end of the festival as well. Additionally, businesses along Main Street with visible storefront windows will be participating in a window decorating contest in celebration of Winterfest.

“Several families have shared that they make a full day of it and include Winterfest as part of their family Christmas tree outing,” Tucker says. “Fortville is central to several local Christmas tree farms, and it’s quaint to see the trees tied to the top of the cars as they travel through our town. It’s fun to think you could enjoy a free holiday festival, shop for unique gifts, get lunch, visit Santa and get your tree all in one day.”

Winterfest is presented by the Town of Fortville in collaboration with Fortville Tires and Thursday Pools is hosted by the Fortville Parks Department.
