Sewing, Knitting and Crocheting Classes for Kids

Sewing, knitting, crocheting and other handiwork crafts are perfect to introduce to kids. They challenge hand-eye coordination, develop motor skills and teach patience. Plus, the end result is useful! Many children are learning more and more about crafting through YouTube videos and shared life hacks, so they might pick it up faster than you think!

There are many places that offer sewing, knitting and crocheting classes around Indianapolis. Here are just a few!

Nomad Yarns

Multiple locations across Indiana

Nomad Yarns is “Indiana’s only yarn truck,” and they make stops all over Indiana. Meet the staff of Nomad Yarns at a local stop (typically a coffee shop or diner), join them for online courses in crochet and knitting, or just fall in love with their hand-dyed yarn and crafty projects. Nomad Yarns also hosts a craft club called Technique a Week. Even if you don’t plan to learn anything about knitting or crocheting, just spotting the Nomad Yarn Truck is a fun adventure!

Room to Sew

Noblesville

Weekly classes provide instruction no matter the student’s skill level. Beginners learn everything from the parts of a sewing machine to top stitching. More advanced students learn buttons, zippers and prepping for commercial patterns. With small class sizes, the instructor has time for each student to help develop skills and grow to the next level. Room to Sew has open sewing hours, or take a look at the 2021 mini-camps available, ranging from creating a Harry Potter reading pillow to a Doll Pajama Party.

A Sewing Studio

Carmel

Ages 6 and up can enjoy a variety of options at A Sewing Studio. They offer a weekly class with monthly fee, where students can work on projects throughout the year. A variety of three-hour camps are offered over the summer, in which each camper makes a themed sewing project. Another popular option is their Paint and Sew course, bumping the creativity up a notch.
