Yelp’s Top Local Gifts for Kids

Yelp Top Kids Gifts - Indy's Child

Trust us: We’ve been fangirling over Yelp Indy for years. So when they approached Indy’s Child about writing a regular column, we were all YES PLEASE. We introduce Brittany, Yelp Indy Community Director and Katie, Yelp Indy Marketing Intern in what will become a monthly column highlighting some of the fun spots that make Indy, well, INDY. This month it’s all about wonderful local businesses offering unique gifts for kids. Take it away ladies!

We don’t mean to make you panic, but the holidays are only a few weeks away (*cue freak out*). Still searching for unique gifts for the kids in your life? Have no fear – Yelp rounded up a list of local businesses with products that the kiddos are sure to love.

Art 2 The Extreme: The Original Handmade Rainbow Crayon
If your child is an aspiring Picasso, a box of Crayola isn’t going to cut it. Local artist Nicole is the first person on Etsy to ever sell a recycled crayon, and she’s been making whimsical shapes and creatures for eight years. Inspired from her time as an elementary school art teacher, Nicole melts down crayons and sells them in shapes like mustaches, butterflies, hearts, dinosaurs, and more!
American Armadillo
Want your kid to be the spiffiest in the room? Try adding an American Armadillo bowtie to their get up. This Indiana-based neckwear and distributor sells bowties in every color and pattern imaginable. Your kid will be the talk of the town at the holiday party – not to mention the best dressed!
JO Designs Crocheted Goods
Winter time means bundling up to keep those ruddy cheeks warm. Layers can be a hassle, but we bet your kids won’t complain when they have a JO Designs crochet beard to sport. Bonus: the beards come in adult and kid size so the whole family can match. Don’t forget the blue and white striped Colts beards to show your team spirit!
Indy Reads Books
Did you know Indy Reads Books is the only independent bookstore in downtown Indianapolis? You can find a literary treasure trove in its storefront on the north end of Mass Ave. If you’re looking to stock up on kids’ books, this is the place. The gently used childrens’ books are only $1! Best part is all of the proceeds benefit the not-for-profit organization Indy Reads, whose mission is to improve the literacy of adults in central Indiana. A win for all!

United State of Indiana
You’ve probably seen the iconic USI flag logo on tee-shirts and laptop stickers, but did you know they sell kids’ garb, too? Your kid can show their Hoosier pride with a youth tee in different designs. And how can we not mention the adorable “Little Rad Hoosier Dude” and “Mayor of Naptown” onesies?
