For months there’s been an outlet near my wife’s nightstand in our bedroom that needed to be replaced. Each night when we would read, her tableside lamp would unplug and many nights, her phone charger would fall out of the outlet, leaving her with a dead phone to start her day. Dozens of times I’d promised my wife I would replace the outlet. Dozens of times, I’d broken that promise.
I was intimidated by the thought of repairing anything involving electricity.
Finally, I decided to overcome the dread of this home improvement job and with the help of my five-year-old, I completed it as part of a Mother’s Day present to my wife. Not only did my daughter and I decide to replace the junky old outlet for my wife, but we also wanted to upgrade to the 21st century and replace it with an outlet that also had USB ports.
This is a project I wouldn’t have had the confidence to tackle if it weren’t for the DIYZ app. DIYZ simplifies home improvement projects by breaking them down step-by-step and also featuring segmented videos. After a quick search on the app to find my project, I had a list of the supplies we would need to complete the project as well as an estimated time the project would take to complete.
After watching the short video, “How to Install a USB Outlet,” on the DIYZ app, my daughter and I simply followed the steps.
First, we turned off the power to the bedroom outlets at the breaker box.
Next, we removed the old outlet and put in our new one. After turning the power back on, we checked our work using a circuit tester.
Success! A project completed thanks to the help of my daughter and the DIYZ app! We will definitely continue to use the DIYZ app for around the house repairs and projects.
