Tonight's 10 p.m. wish: that my newly-published book will help at least a few people struggling with too-consuming jobs find a path to a happier, more balanced life. I can’t believe this milestone has arrived, but my book is now officially published! Know When to Run: Lessons from the diary of a Gen X mom," is now available in paperback and Kindle edition on Amazon. What a surreal moment for a first-time author! This project started on June 30, 2010, when I had one of the worst days of my career. I got thrown a disturbing curve ball while on maternity leave with my youngest daughter, Daisy May. I had to make a quick decision between two bad options. I felt stunned, hopeless and trapped. My husband Ian encouraged me to start writing every day as I juggled a frantic evening news schedule that made it impossible to be the kind of mother I wanted. I had no idea when I started writing what a life-changing year I was about to document. That diary is like a video camera left running while a tornado passed overhead. Thank goodness, by the end of that dramatic year, an unexpected door opened that helped me take a leap of faith into a more sane and balanced life. Over the last several years, I have adapted that diary into a book: “Know When to Run: Lessons from the diary of a Gen X mom.” (Click here to purchase a copy.) I left the diary entries intact, but added lessons that I can now see in hindsight, that I wish I had understood back then.
