There will also be performances by Carmel’s nationally acclaimed ballet company, Indianapolis Ballet Conservatory and a Cincinnati-based Russian folk dance group. Students from the Russian School music and dance programs will be on hand to showcase Russian modern and folk songs and perform character dances.
Kids will enjoy the interactive educational kids’ corner where they can get a glimpse of individuals dressed in traditional Russian costumes, paint nesting dolls and participate in ballet workshops. There will also be Russian cartoons on display and a station where kids can learn how to write their name in Russian. Adults can play chess, watch a documentary about Russia and sample traditional Russian cuisines.
Admission to the festival is free, but a $5 donation allows access to all of the activities. Authentic Russian food and artisans’ wares will be available for purchase. For more information, visit indydeti.com or call 317-399-4685.
About the Russian School: The Russian School of Indiana founded in 1993 by a group of Russian-speaking immigrants – mostly parents themselves. It all started with a few volunteers, mostly ex-teachers, who would come to the Jewish Community Center on Sundays to teach just a handful of children what they knew best: Russian Language, Literature, Math, Music and Art. Today, the school is a fully functional non-profit, tax-exempt organization, with a great team of professional instructors and energetic leaders. The number of students has grown considerably over the years and in the fall of 2009, the school relocated to University High School in Carmel, IN. The school provides a fun learning environment and an array of enrichment opportunities for children and adults.
